CONSTRUCTIVE WORLDS
BEGINNINGS OF A NEW UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE OF ART
At the center of the exhibition is the iconic cycle “Small Worlds”, which Wassily Kandinsky realized in 1922 – the year he was appointed to the Bauhaus Weimar. In the same year the “Konstruktivistische Internationale” met in Düsseldorf and Weimar. This manifested the beginning of a new world language of non-representational art. From the ahlers collection, works by Kandinsky's Bauhaus colleagues Paul Klee, Oskar Schlemmer and László Moholy-Nagy are shown, which significantly shaped the design of this new visual language, as well as the constructivist works of Eastern European avant-garde artists such as Lajos Kassák, László Peri and Nikolai Michailowitsch Suetin . They all found their own way into abstraction. Their works are a fascinating addition to those of Kandinsky. Also to be emphasized is the artist group “die abstrakten hannover” with important works by Kurt Schwitters, El Lissitzky, Carl Buchheister and Rudolf Jahns.
