What happened to Gabriele Münter? Gabriele Münter's career from 1920 to 1962.
A lecture by Dr. Isabelle Jansen
Curator and Managing Director of the Gabriele Münter and Johannes Eichner Foundation, Munich
In 1920, Gabriele Münter returned to Germany from her five-year Scandinavian exile. Here she had to completely rebuild her life - a challenging task, especially for an artist. Contrary to the widespread cliché that the painter had experienced her best years during the "Blue Rider" era, she achieved great success both in Germany and internationally during the decades from 1920 onwards. In order to publicise her work and to gain exhibition opportunities, she tirelessly made contacts and built up a wide network. At the same time, she constantly renewed her art. The lecture outlines how her artistic career developed and the strategies she pursued to disseminate her work.
With Dr. Isabelle Jansen, we were able to secure one of the leading international scientists on the work of Gabriele Münter as a speaker.
