Münter & Kandinsky

A lecture by Dr. Alice Brauner, film producer and journalist

They were an extraordinarily gifted couple: Gabriele Münter and Wassily Kandinsky, co-founders of the Blue Rider, probably the most famous German artist group of the modern era. But while he was receiving fame and artistic and financial recognition, she was in danger of withering away in his long shadow as a woman and, above all, as an artist. That is the interpretation of their relationship so far, which is now slowly beginning to change.

Alice Brauner reports on the research for her feature film, which takes a fresh look at the famous artist couple. With psychological sensitivity and on the basis of meticulous research, it reconstructs the intense bond between two people with fundamentally different characters in the context of their time, without idealizing either of them.
